The new shorter .uk TLD gives companies an opportunity to highlight that they're UK based.
Over ten years ago when 3DPixel was founded, we initially chose .net because our industry is literally "the net", but as with any domain name choice, availability also played a large part. Since then we've been through some changes, switching between 3dpixelnet.com, 3dpixelnet.co.uk and 3dpixel.net, which has been our domain name for over 5 years.
We've no qualms with .net, but at the same time, we realised that we're in no way tied to it. Our industry association with .net isn't a sticking point for us as 99% of our customers come through referrals. It has a nice ring to it, but then, so can something else.
So when .uk arrived, we of course took the opportunity to reclaim 3dpixel.co.uk (we had let it lapse), and with it, our right to register 3dpixel.uk. The .co.uk domain has no appeal, it highlights us as a UK company, but the resulting domain 3dpixel.co.uk just has no zing to it. 3dpixel.uk however, helps us stand out from the crowd.
We're happy to announce that we will now be trading under the domain name 3dpixel.uk!
Oh, and as an aside, in June we were also granted the 3dpixel™ by the Intellectual Property Office. Very exciting!
All existing 3dpixel.net domains and subdomains continue to function. Use of these will of course be phased out over time, but as long as they are being used, they will continue to be provided. The vast majority of our tools do not require you to use these in any case (email auto configures, SFTP should be directed to your domain name).
We've been through our website, and automated email templates with a fine toothcomb, but if you find anywhere that we're still using 3dpixel.net, please let us know!
